Jaco graduated in 1997 with a B. Dram (Hons) in directing at Stellenbosch University Drama Department, finishing a directing M.Dram degree in 19**.
Career
His main interests are directing and physical theatre.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He has performed in a variety of productions such as Johnny Cockroach, Salome, Orfeo and Euridice, Grafwater, The Seagull, Die Sewe Doodsondes, Aars!, Barcodes and Tango del Fuego.
In 2001 he was the co-founder of the Afrikaans company Vleis, Rys en Aartappels (with Saartjie Botha and Marthinus Basson).
Productions directed include For (Vleis, Rys en Aartappels and Smag (2008, : 'n Ander Tongval, Smag, Saad, Verkeer. Directed Rooiland (2011-12), Lig, Na-aap (2013), Balbesit in 2013 and 2014.
Insomnia, Power and Guests were performed in one night as short experimental works in Cape Town, at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, and the 969 Festival in the Wits Theatre in Braamfontein. Power was also performed at De Appel Teater in Den Haag in 2008.
He also directed Mixed Metaphors, Elke duim 'n koning, Trippie, A Fridge Too Far, Lunch, Skrapnel, Altyd Jonker.
Awards, etc
He was awarded the Mark Graham Prize for Best Directing Student, 1997.
He won the Rosalie van der Gucht Prize for New Directors in 2002.
He won a Fleur du Cap for Altyd Jonker.
He was nominated for a Fleur du Cap Best Director and won a Kanna Award for Samsa-masjien, 2016.
He won the Young Artist Award for Drama in 2009.
He was nominated several times for Fleur du Cap or Kanna awards.
His presentation of Marat/Sade won Best Production of the Year Fleur du Cap, March 2018.
