Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA)

Established by Anton Luitingh and Duane Alexander in Cape Town on 21 January 2019. LAMTA is based at Theatre on the Bay in Cape Town.

Facilities

The Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy is housed on a separate floor on top of the Theatre On The Bay. Facilities include:

  • Over 400 square metres of combined studio space.
  • Seven studios of various sizes with our main studio boasting an impressive 120 square metres that will also be turned into a studio space for smaller in-house performances.
  • All studios are equipped with mirrors, air conditioning and sprung floors.
  • Sound equipment, pianos or keyboards in each of our studios.
  • Changing facilities for men and woman with lockers, toilets and showers.
  • A Student recreation area for downtime between classes.
  • A reception area, administrative offices, a faculty staff room and a boardroom for meetings and one on one feedback sessions with our students.

Productons

Past productions include:

2019: Silver Screen at Theatre on the Bay, featuring works choreographed by Adele Blank, Brigitte Reeve, Hope Maimane, Michelle Reid, Duane Alexander, Ilona Frege, Ashley Searle, Robin van Wyk and Sven-Eric Müller.

2019: Encore! - a tribute to Pieter Toerien's many productions from the past 18 years presented at Theatre on the Bay, featuring students Michael Stray, Stuart Brown, Ché-jean Jupp, Amy Reed, Tannah Levick, Noluthando Dlamini, Morgan Marshall, Liné Koen and guest performers Bethany Dickson, Edith Plaaitjies, Sven-Eric Müller, Loukmaan Adams, Emma-Rose Blacher and Lilla Fleischman. Costumes by Niall Griffin.

2020: Awakening at Theatre on the Bay

2021: Photograph, Mephisto, All Together Now!

2022: Come Together, The Seagull and Stupid Fucking Bird, Being Steve

2023: Vintage Jukebox, Cosi
