Performance history in South Africa
Presented at the Reps Theatre, May 1952, directed by Taubie Kushlick, starring Johann Nell in the title role, Lesley Brook, Olive Kavann, Simon Swindell, Robert del Kyrke, Sheila Lawrence, Gillian Whyte, Nicholas Brady, David Ritch, Sheelagh Ross, Ronald Arden.
Produced in Afrikaans under the direction of Robert Mohr for CAPAB in the Alhambra Theatre opening 3 September 1969 starring Percy Sieff, Sandra Kotzé, Francois Stemmet, Pieter Joubert, Alec Bell, André Rossouw, Dawie Maritz, Fanie Bekker, Fitz Morley, James Norval, Dawid van der Walt, Ulrich Fobian, Rudie Nagelmaeker, Willem Vermaas, Willem de la Querra, Woutrine Theron, Nerina Ferreira, Anna Cloete, Marie Pentz, Marion Crage-Smith, Barnes Senekal and others. Stage director, Mavis Lilenstein, decor and costumes by Chris van den Berg. There were 14 performances, six of those in the H.B. Thom Theatre and it turned out to be a financial disaster.
