Lizz Meiring (1961-) Actress, playwright, comedienne, director and producer.


Biography

Born Elizabeth Henriette Meiring on 9 December 1961 in Pretoria,

She went to Laerskool Pretoria-Oos for her primary school education, where she began her stage career in school productions. As a nine-year old she appeared in in University of Pretoria Drama Departement's productions Langenhovenjaar and Vrou van Suid-Afrika in 1974.

Going on to study drama at the University of Pretoria, she copleted a B.A. Drama (Hons) degree in 1983. At the same time, she did professional work even while studying, doing dubbing and voice-overs and radio work for the SABC, presentations for the PACT ballet company, and taking acting roles in SABC TV-productions and PACT stage productions.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Her numerous stage roles include appearances in Die Van Aardes van Grootoor (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1992), An Audience with Evita Bezuidenhout (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1990) An Audience with an African Queen (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1993). She also acted in Macbeth, Cheaper Than Roses, Graswewenaar, Die Keiser, Pantagleize, My Fat Friend, The Sleeping Beauty, Die Van Aardes van Grootoor, Verskrikkelik Snaaks, Annerkant Blinkkant, 'n Koffer in die Kas, Illusions, Kopstukke, Desnieteenstaande, Two for the Price of One, Doller as Kop-Af (2001.).


She wrote and performed in Elke Ander Duim 'n Dame ( KKNK, 2002), **.

Plays directed include 10 gesprekke oor die man wat nie wou huil nie by Wikus du Toit (KKNK, 2003 ), * MacBeki (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 2009), An *, Sing (??) (Roodepoort, 2008, Pretoria & KKNK, 2010), Skilpoppe, Vlerkdans, Griet Skryf 'n Sprokie, The Laramie Project, Hartedief.

She also wrote: Doringrosie van Roosfontein (a pantomime, 20**), Binnelanders-Buiteweste, Die Duiwel dra Crocs, Lippetaal, Windmaker, Volkome Vervulling, co-wrote Breek, Brolloks en Bittergal, Boom!, Rumpelstilskin, Die Skandaal, Die Spook van Donkergat, Miss Africa South.
