Rumpelstiltskin
"Rumpelstiltskin" is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 1812 edition of Children's and Household Tales. The story is about an imp who spins straw into gold in exchange for a woman's firstborn child.
Translations and adaptations
The story has been adapted numerous times on stage, television and in film including a South African version, Rumpelstilskin, by Hansie Visagie and Lizz Meiring.
Performance history in South Africa
1905: Presented at Tivoli Theatre, Cape Town in May by members of the Cape Town branch of the Empire League.
2003: Rumpelstiltskin and Other Tales produced and directed by Brenda Lauth at the Killie Campbell estate in Durban.
2011: A production was staged featuring Liandé Meagan Valentyn.
