Twee Emmertjies Water Halen is a Dutch children's play by Aad Greidanus ()[].

The original text

Based on a children's dancing song, the play was first performed on 4 September, 1959 by Toneelgroep Arena, playing for a number of consecutive seasons (1959/1960, 1960/1961, 1962/1963).

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Afrikaans as Lappies die Lappiesmous (approx. "Rags, the ragmerchant") by Wilma Stockenström, the text published by DALRO 1968 and 1969.

Performance history in South Africa

1968: Performed by SUKOVS, directed by Leonora Nel, opening on 10 July at the Stadskouburg, Bloemfontein. Cast: Johan Botha, George Barnes, Maryann Johnston, Lynette Marais, Raymond Davies, Neels Coetzee.

1968: Performed by CAPAB, directed by Leonora Nel, opening at the Labia Theatre on 30 September, with Francois Stemmet, Christine Basson, Cheryl Heath, Fitz Morley, Willem de la Querra, Dawid van der Walt. Costumes and décor: Limpie Basson.

1981: Lappies die Lappiesmous was directed by William Egan for PACT Playwork, presented at the Arena in Rosebank and at the State Theatre in Pretoria from 25 June to 4 July. The cast were Graham Weir (Lappies), Schalk Schoombie, Richard van der Westhuizen, Charlotte Butler, Riana Wilkens, Ronny Belcher and Johan Engelbrecht.
