Lynette Marais (19**-2020). Actress, stage manager, theatre administrator and director.

Biography

She passed away of colon cancer at her home in Grahamstown on 30 August(?) 2020

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Worked as an actress from the late 1960s till the early 1970s, inter alia appearing for PACOFS in Ring Round the Moon (PACOFS]] 1967), The Tempest (PACOFS, 196*), Tartuffe (PACT 1973), Kinkels in die Kabel (PACT 1973), Die Dame met die Kamelias (CAPAB 1966), Die Sirkusavontuur (PACT 1969), Lappies die Lappiesmous, Picnic in Town, Troilus and Cressida (PACT 1974), Ring Round the Moon (PACOFS]] 1967), Antigone (by Sophocles) (PACT 1970), Sextet 69, Kafka: The Trial, Moeite met die Minnaars (1968), The House of Blue Leaves, The White Liars.


Moved to Pretoria to become a stage manager for PACT English drama and later the administrative head of PACT since 1982. In 1989 she became the director of the Grahamstown Festival, remaining in the post until 2008 when Ismail Mahomed took over the position.

She commissioned Janice Honeyman to adapt and direct Charles Dickens's Hard Times for PACT in 1989.
