Biography
She was born Mary Ann Johnson in Cape Town.
She initially worked for PACOFS in Bloemfontein, before joining PACT in Johannesburg and began appearing in films.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Her stage appearances included plays like The Rashomon Gate (PACOFS 1965) and The House of Blue Leaves. She played in Tartuffe in Afrikaans for PACOFS, A Month in the Country and The Magistrate for PACT. Die Dubbele Adelaar (SUKOVS April 1968), Jan en die Boontjierank, Kom Spook By My (1969), The Rivals (PACOFS Jan 1969), Lappies die Lappiesmous (SUKOVS, July 1968), Moeite met die Minnaars (PACOFS 1968), Picnic in Town (PACOFS October 1968), Move Over Mrs. Markham (Academy Theatre of Laughter in 1971), Hair Hair (1972).
She went on to make her name in films, e.g.Lied in My Hart, Sien jou More, Die Drie van der Merwes, A New Life, Freddie's in Love. and Marmer Poel.
