André Odendaal (19**) is an actor and director.

His name sometimes also found as Andre Odendaal.

Biography

Training

Qualified with a BA (Hons) drama degree from the University of Pretoria in 1983.


Career

Joined PACT in 1986 and was a permanent member of their drama company for four years, before becoming free-lance.

As actor

As a student he had a role in Illusions, NAF 1983.

He had roles in Vettie, Vettie! (PACT 1987), Die Laaste Sondag (PACT 1986), a production of Hamlet in Afrikaans, (PACT 1987, Strider (PACT 1987), Die Prys (PACT 1987), Aladdin (PACT, 1988), Die Storm (PACT, 1989), at the Alexander Theatre, During the Fall, 1990, The Martian Chronicles (PACT 1988), Sing jy van Bomme (PACT 1988), Taraboemdery (PACT 1989), Dalk (1989), Man in die Blou Maan (PACT 1989), Koning Lear (PACT 1990), Macbeth (PACT 1990), Callaway Farce (PACT 1990), During the Fall (1990), Die Sakeman van Venesië (PACT 1991), All the Rage (NAF 1992), Die Keiser, 1992, The Glass Menagerie (1994), Donkerland (1996), Skandaal (1997), Skandaal 2 (Deon Opperman and Lizz Meiring, 1999), At the risk of being, KKNK, 2002, Magspel (several productions since 1999), Requiem (1998), Hitler (NAF 1999), Kaptein Popfees and the Weekend Blues (1997), Balls and Brains (1997), Skuldeiser (Woordfees 2015).

As director

Assistant director and acted in Die Salem-verhoor, (PACT 1988).

Was assistant director and starred in A Lad 'n a Lamp (PACT 1988).

He directed Katriena (2000), Vergenoeg (Woordfees 2011), Somewhere on the Border (2011-12), Vettie, Vettie! at Montecasino Theatre in 2014, People are Living There (2015) and My Fat Friend at Theatre on the Bay in 2016.

A filmed version of Skilpoppe was produced and directed for M-Net by André in 2003/2004.

Awards, etc

AA Life Vita Award for most promising actor, 1988; AA Life Vita Award for best supporting actor, 1989; DALRO Critics award for best supporting actor, 1990, beste akteur (Magspel) Aardklop 2010.
