DE BEER, Matthys (Thys). (18*-19*) Actor. He was an amateur who performed for Hendrik Hanekom in Beaufort West, notably in Magrieta Prinsloo in 1922. Brother of Mathilda Hanekom.
DE BRUIN, Jocelyn ("Jos")
DE BRUYN, Miems (1922-2010) Actress. * Studied at the University of Stellenbosch, was an actress her whole life. Married to * and had 4 daughters. * Her stage career included **. Became famous as the character “Tant Kriekie” in the first Afrikaans TV sit-com Nommer Asseblief (“Number Please” – first broadcast in 1979 and well into the early 1980s. Her performances include many other TV and film appearances (*) and she was still working late in her 80s. Her last appearance was in Sewende Laan (“Seventh Avenue”) and she was working on Villa Rosa when she fell ill.
DE BRUYN, ** (19*-19*) ** Chairman of the De Bruyn Committee, appointed by the Department of Education Arts and Science??* in 1961 to investigate the financial and organisational problems encountered by the embattled National Theatre Organisation (NTO). The committee recommended that (a) NTO wind up its business in 1962 and (b) that it be replaced by four povincial performing arts councils in 1963.
