Nigel Davenport

Nigel Davenport [1]. (1928-2013) English stage, television and film actor.

Born in Shelford, Cambridge, and grew up in an academic family. He was educated at St. Peter's Seaford, Cheltenham College and Trinity College, Oxford, doing English. First appeared on stage at the Savoy Theatre, then with the Shakespeare Memorial Company, before joining the English Stage Company at the Royal Court Theatre in the 1960s. He began to appear in British film and television productions in supporting roles, as a succession of lords, police inspectors and military officers.

He was brought out to South Africa to star, with Moira Lister, in Roger Redfarn’s production of Murder Among Friends which Pieter Toerien transferred to His Majesty's Theatre in 1977 after a successful run at the Civic Theatre. This production was also staged at the Baxter Theatre.
