Biography
He was married to Reza de Wet from the late 1980s until her death in 2012.
Career
He worked briefly for The Space in Cape Town and for PACT in the early 1970s,
He then became part of Mannie Manim and Barney Simon’s The Company around 1974 and worked as an actor and director at the Market Theatre. He was at one time also the director of the Centre of Creative Acting in Hillbrow. Also worked for Pieter Toerien.
Lindsay later settled in Grahamstown, working at the Rhodes University Drama Department.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
For The Space he performed in Tooth of Crime (staged at the Beattie Theatre) and directed L’amante Anglaise.
Lindsay has also appeared in Richard III, Tartuffe PACT 1972, Fando and Lis 1970s, Investigation into the Death of a Greek, Alice’s Adventures Underground, A Macbeth, Enemy!, The Trial, Murder Among Friends (for Pieter Toerien 1977), The Grand Ceremonial, Miss Julie and in The Persecution of Oedipus Rex.
He starred in Barney Simon’s production of Chekhov’s The Seagull at Upstairs at the Market in June 1976 and as Orsino in Twelfth Night Bloemfontein, 1980. Other acting roles include **, **, and Concealment (Reza de Wet, 2003), *. *
He was involved with several productions of The First Physical Theatre Company.
He performed in and directed many productions of the Rhodes University Drama Department, inter alia The Father 1986, The Crucible, directed by Reza Reardon, May 1990.
He directed Miss Julie (1985), the triple bill of The Grand Ceremonial by Ferdinand Arrabal, also presented during the National Arts Festival (1991), Mike Weller's Just the Three of Us and Epiphany by Lewis John Carlino; Cloud Nine by Caryl Churchill [1], March 2004, and co-directed Pinter's Interiors and The Birthday Party with Aylwyn Walsh in 2006.
