Picnic is a short play by Fernando Arrabal (1932-)[1] .

Perhaps better known as Picnic en el Campo de Batalla or Picnic on the Battlefield.

Originally called Pic-Nic or Picnic in Spanish, it was written in 1947.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into French as Pique-nique en Campagne.

Translated as into English as Picnic on the Battlefield from the French by Barbara Wright, and published by Calder & Boyars, 1967.

Translated into Afrikaans as Piekniek te Velde and as Piekniek op die Slagveld by Fred le Roux.

1974: Performed in Afrikaans as Piekniek te Velde in a lunch-hour presentation at The Space in 1974, directed by Dawie Malan with Marthinus Basson, Neels Bezuidenhout, Stephen Gurney, Blaise Koch, Margot Luyt and Fitz Morley.

1974: Performed in Afrikaans as Piekniek op die Slagveld by PACOFS, directed by Annelize van der Ryst, starring Christopher Consani, Roelf Laubscher, Johan Esterhuizen and Trudi du Plessis.

1976: Performed in English as Picnic on the Battlefield in a lunch-hour presentation at The Space (Cape Town), directed by Bill Flynn with Charles Comyn, Bill Curry, Joe Gibbon, Dorrian McLaren, John Nankin and Robin Smith.
