Lionel Newton

Newton, Lionel (1965- ) is a South African actor and mime artist.

Biography

Training

Trained at the University of Cape Town Drama Department.

Theatre

In the 1980s he began working with Andrew Buckland, and together they performed many of Buckland’s plays, under the direction of either Janet Buckland or Lara Foot-Newton. These include ***, ***.

He also performed for Barney Simon in Silent Movie (1992).

He starred in Athol Fugard’s Hello and Goodbye at Upstairs at the Market in 1994.

Stage productions include: Macbeth; Rodney Gets His Gun; Romeo and Juliet'; A Midsummer Night's Dream; Thina Bantu; Measure for Measure; Oliver; Hamlet; The Seagull; Antony and Cleopatra;
