Stander (2003) is a film written by Bima Stagg.

Synopsis

The film is based on the true story of South African police captain André Stander, who becomes disillusioned with the apartheid system after witnessing and participating in its violence. He secretly embarks on a series of daring bank robberies while continuing to serve as a police officer. After forming the notorious "Stander Gang" with fellow criminals Allan Heyl and Lee McCall, he becomes one of South Africa's most wanted fugitives before his eventual capture and escape.

The film was produced by Martin Katz, Chris Roland, and Julia Verdin. It was directed by Bronwen Hughes. The original score was composed by Free Association.

The principal cast includes Thomas Jane as André Stander, David O'Hara as Allan Heyl, Dexter Fletcher as Lee McCall, Deborah Kara Unger as Bekkie Stander, Ashley Taylor as Cor van Deventer, Marius Weyers as General Stander, At Botha as General Viljoen, Lionel Newton as Sergeant Smit, and Sean Else as Ed Janis.
