Biography
Youth
Training
He graduated with a law degree from the University of Stellenbosch and studied drama at the Akademie vir Dramakuns under Babs Laker and Sandra Temmingh.
Career
He started acting and directing at an amateur drama society in Parow. He taught at the Pretoria Technikon and later joined PACT and the SABC.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
While studying at Stellenbosch, he also participated in the USAT Dramafees as actor, playwright and director, inter alia winning the 1977 UUB-trofee ("UUB Trophy") as best student director and the HAUM-trofee ("HAUM Trophy") as best student playwright.
Later stage directing credits include Confetti, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Die Drie Van Der Walts, Maid in South Africa, Plofstof by Pieter Jacobs (KKNK, 2004), Die Soen, The Homecoming, Annerkant Blinkkant, Skool vir Hansworse, Poppie - Die Drama (2004-5).
For television he directed Ballade vir 'n Enkeling, 7de Laan,
Directed and acted in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown (1981).
He translated Crimes of the Heart into Afrikaans entitled Hartsondes and directed a production of the play in 2004.
Henry adapted My Night with Reg into Afrikaans and directed several productions of the play in Afrikaans and in English from 2002 to 2004.
On stage he has appeared in Plaston: DNS-Kind, Lokval vir ‘n Eensame Man (1976), Die Hekse van Salem (1982), Die Ryk Weduwee, Kinkels innie Kabel, Yerma, Die Tragedie van Romeo en Juliet, Die Geldpot (1980), Hond se Gedagte (1981).
He wrote the play In Die Bol Gepik!.
Judge for the Vita Awards (Gauteng region) and Nagtegaalprys for drama (2004).
