Henriëtta Gryffenberg

Henriëtta Gryffenberg (1964- ) is a South African actress, playwright and television scriptwriter, best known for her role in the Afrikaans drama series Sonkring and for writing the screenplay for the Afrikaans television drama series Erfsondes, which premiered on SABC2 in 2007.

Biography

Henriëtta was born in Johannesburg.

Training

She studied Drama at the University of Pretoria, Department of Drama, graduating in 1984 and in 1985 she obtained her teacher's diploma..

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

As a student she had a role in a production of People are Living There (1986).

Working for PACT she appeared in Dalk (1988), Antjie Somers and I (1989), Taraboemdery (1989), Plastics (1993).

Subsequent roles on stage include Die Papegaaivrou (1990), the pantomime Jan en die Boontjierank (1991), Droomsmokkelaar (1993), Keely and Du (1997), Briewe aan 'n Rooi Dak (Aardklop 2001), Desnieteenstaande (Aardklop 2003), Sophia Mentz Beredder Haar Boedel (Aardklop 2007). She wrote Erfsondes for Template:SABC and also some episodes of the TV series Generations and 7de Laan. She wrote Daar's 'n Kind in my Kop with Anna-Ghrett Errasmus

Henriëtta assisted as director of Dood van 'n Verkoopsman (2010) and directed Die Uitnodiging at Innibos in 2019.

She wrote the one-act play Dis nie my Bybie nie and the cabaret Swartskaap.

In 2022 she adapted Irma Venter's detective novel Minder as Niks for the screen, working with Wyrd Films,

Awards, etc.

She was awarded the Kanna Prize, best performance in music theatre, for the text and her performance in Swartskaap, 2005, a text also rewarded with the AngloGold/ Ashanti-Smeltkroesprys for best new Afrikaans text in 2004.

She was nominated best supporting actress on the Afrikaans stage for the DALRO Award, award year 1993, for her role in Droomsmokkelaar.
