David Clatworthy (1960-2020). Actor.

Biography

David was born in Virginia, Orange Free State in 1960 and attended Pretoria Boys High School. He was married to the actress Wilmien Rossouw. He is an all-round sportsman and a talented long distance runner. He died on 8 September 2020 of cancer, survived by three children.

Training

Graduated from UCT with a bilingual Performer's Diploma in Speech and Drama, 1983.

Career

Joined permanent CAPAB Drama Company in 1984. He became a freelance actor in 1985. and was later appointed to the permanent acting company of PACT Drama.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Roles include appearances in RE:Vamp, Falstaff and Om die Stilte te Verbreek in 1984; The Two of Us (1985); "Eddie/Fortune Teller" in Berkoff's Greek, "Bessmertny" in Gubaryev's Sarcophagus, James Tyron Jr in A Long Day's Journey into Night, in Simon Gray’s The Common Pursuit directed by Ken Leach at the Alhambra Theatre in 1987, Shakespeare's Macbeth by Heiner Müller 1989,the courtesan in M. Butterfly (1990). He starred in The Great Gatsby, Beyond Therapy, Romeo and Juliet at the State Theatre and the Alexander Theatre in 1992, The Substance of Fire in 1993, Donkerland in 1996, Taking Sides (1997), Die Skandaal (1997) Far Cry, Educating Rita, Die Teken, The Proposal (2004).

He has appeared in the television series Meester and Konings, the film District 9 (2009) as well as in over 100 radio dramas.
