Won the Three Leaf Award for best student in 1976. performed in The Indian Wants the Bronx (at the Market Theatre in 1980 as Joey), Christian (for Brickhill/Burke in 1980), Don Juan (at the Market Theatre in 1980), Oh, What a Lovely War (with PACT in 1980), Faces in the Wall (at the Market Theatre), Spider’s Web (for Pieter Toerien), Tom Foolery (for Pieter Toerien) (SACD 1980/81) (SACD 1981/82)

Studied Drama (BA and the Performer's Diploma) at the University of Cape Town, graduating in 1976. *In the early years following his studies very involved with Theatre in Education and the SA Association for Theatre and Youth Theatre. Worked for a year for Robin Malan's PACT Playwork Company, a year and a half for CAPAB and then returned to Johannesburg in 1976. * Faces in the Wall (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1980), He starred in Israel Horowitz’s The Indian Wants the Bronx together with Michael Richard and Bill Curry and directed by Bobby Heaney at the Laager in 1980. Starred for 3 months in Brickhill/Burke's production of Christian. He starred in Tom Lehrer’s Tom Foolery together with Andre Hattingh, Tim Plewman and Michael McGovern at the Intimate Theatre in 1981. He starred in Lanford Wilson’s Fifth of July with Dorothy-Ann Gould and Eckard Rabe at the André Huguenet Theatre in 1982. He starred in Who Goes Bare? together with Tim Plewman under direction by Rex Garner at the André Huguenet Theatre in 1982. He starred in In Praise of Rattigan together with Rex Garner, Fiona Ramsay and Neville Thomas with direction by Rex Garner in 1984. Dog Days and The War at Home. He starred in Simon Gray’s The Common Pursuit directed by Ken Leach at the Alhambra Theatre in 1987. He starred in Bobby Heaney’s production of Largo Desolato in 1988. Quoted from the programme notes of Tom Foolery in 1981: 'Television experience includes the children's series Just Imagine and Video 2 for which he was presenter for 6 months. Fully bilingual, Jonathan is a well-known voice on radio, and has recently broken into voice-overs and spots. He has just been seen in Oh, What a Lovely War for PACT and Spider's Web also for Pieter Toerien, and is playing Eric Ridder in Edgar Bold's Westgate for television.'

He passed away due to the complications of heart surgery on 29 April 2011.
