EBRAHIM, Vinette (1957- ) is a South African actress.


Biography

She is married to Ivan D. Lucas and her brother is Vincent Ebrahim. One of her daughters is the television actress and radio personaity Kim Cloete.


Youth

Training

She was trained by Yvonne Bryceland at the Space Theatre.

Career

Her career started in 1974 at the Space Theatre.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Vinette is best known for her starring role as Charmaine Meintjies (née Beukes) on the SABC2 soap opera Sewende Laan (7de Laan), since 2000.

On stage she has appeared in Buckingham Palace, District Six, Fiela se Kind, Kinkels innie Kabel, Violations, Horiesô, Madiba, Ubu Roi (1987), The Winter's Tale (CAPAB 1997), Boesman en Lena (2005), Vaselinetjie (Suidoosterfees 2011, directed by Henry Mylne), in a one woman-play at the Suidooster-fees 2009, Miss Africa South. The play was inspired by Barney Simon and suggested by Niel le Roux, Executive Head of the Suidooster-fees. The text was written by

She played the lead in My Naam is Ellen Plakkies, 2011. She was nominated for a Naledi for this role.

In 1997 she directed Josef en die Mevrou.
