Frank Opperman

Frank Opperman (born 1960) is a stage, film and TV actor and musician.

Biography

He was married to the actress Susan Coetzer. They have one son, Frankie. Frank has remarried and the couple have a daughter.

Youth

Training

He studied drama at the Pretoria Technikon in the early 1980s.

Career

He joined PACT Drama circa 1985. He spent a few years in America to obtain a Green Card but returned to South Africa in the mid 1990s.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Directed and designed Lunchtime Concert (Student drama 1983).

For PACT he appeared in Bloeiende Lente (1985); Faan se Stasie (1985); "Damis" in Die Huigelaar (1986); Die Ketter (1986).

Did voice of "Raymond Sintès" for video used in The Outsider (Camus/Triffard, 1997/8). Chris Vorster’s Gehang (KKNK, 2005),

Talk Radio (1998), RooiKôppitjie (Spier 2001), Partners (KKNK 2013), Sing jy van Bomme (Woordfees 2017).

He has collaborated with Dana Snyman on a number of one-man shows, such as Die Uwe, Pottie Potgieter and its sequel Wyk 14, Rooikaart (Woordfees 2011), Die Klaagliedere van ds. Tienie Benadé and Hond.

Among several film roles are Boetie Gaan Border Toe! (1984) and the 2004 film Gums & Noses (film).

On television he played Chris The Big Time and Ouboet in Orkney Snork Nie.

He produced Briewe aan 'n Rooi Dak for theKykNet channel, 2005.

Awards, etc

Artes best actor The Big Time 1992 and The Big Time 2nd series, 1994, both broadcast on SABC television.

His documentary film My Hare Krishna Family won three awards in India in 2006. (Beeld, 14 March 2006)
