Singin' in the Rain is a musical based on the MGM motion picture[.

The original text

Story and screenplay by Betty Comden and Aldolph Green, adapted for the stage with a book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, lyrics by Arthur Freed, and music by Nacio Herb Brown.

The original West End production, directed by Tommy Steele and choreographed by Peter Gennaro, opened at the London Palladium on June 30, 1983. The American opening on Broadway was at the Gershwin Theatre on July 2, 1985, directed and choreographed by Twyla Tharp.

Performance history in South Africa

1989: Presented by CAPAB in collaboration with NAPAC, PACOFS and PACT and by arrangement with Harold Fielding Ltd and Maurice and Lois F. Rosenfield at the Nico Malan Opera House from 4 March to 1 April 1989, directed and choreographed by Geoffrey Sutherland starring Belinda Koning, Sandy Dyer, Lindsay Redman, Mike Huff, Tim Plewman, Carol-Ann Kelleher, David Dennis, Pinto Ferreira, Gordon van Rooyen, Michael O’Reilly, Lana Green, Annamarie Blanckenberg.

2015-6: Pieter Toerien Productions presented the international touring production of the musical, in association with Lunchbox Theatrical Productions[1], at Artscape (2015/6) and the Teatro at Montecasino (2016). Originally directed by Jonathan Church, with Grant Almirall, Bethany Dickson, Steven van Wyk, Taryn-Lee Hudson, James Borthwick, Mark Richardson Anne Power. The touring production directed by Resident Director Anton Luitingh, with Michelle Lane as Production Secretary, Kenneth Meyer as Dialect Coach, and Lj Nelson as Wardrobe Mistress.
