'n Seun na my Hart ("a son dear to my heart") is a one-act play by Ingrid Jonker

The original text

A play about a mother who idealizes the memories of her son, it was originally written by Jonker in the 1950s, and was to be her only play. It was substantially rewritten when Jonker lived in Johannesburg and was published in the collections Voort met die Spel by Human & Rousseau and in Iewers Langs die Pad by Van Schaik.

Performance history in South Africa

1994: Staged by PACOFS in the Observatory Theatre in Bloemfontein in October 1994, directed by Marion Holm, with Marga van Rooy, Maurice Carpede and Nomsa Xaba as the second half of an evening of Jonker's works. The first half was entitled Om Myself Weg te Bêre in My Woord, a selection of Jonker’s (mostly autobiographical) poetry compiled and directed by Marga van Rooy and presented by the cast.

2020: Performed in in the Roodepoort Theatre from 17 till 20 September, directed by Makhaola Ndebele, the artistic director of Joburg City Theatres, with Esmerelda Bihl, Donovan Pietersen and Tereska Muishond.
