Biography
In 1999 he moved to Canada with his wife Susan Danford. They returned after 5 years and eventually settled in the Cape in 2005. Productions in Canada (Measure for Measure, Love’s Labours Lost, and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights), and in Britain.
Training
After completing an honours degree in Industrial Psychology, he enrolled at the University of Cape Town Drama Department in 1985.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Student productions include As I Lay Dying, Hamlet, When You Comin' Home Red Ryder? and a one-man version of Purgatory.
He was co-director of Thina Bantu - We People at the Little Theatre, Cape Town.
He appeared in his first professional role in Boo to the Moon as "Spider" for PACT in 1987. In Beyond Reasonable Doubt he appeared as "Robert Pierson" (1989). Other performances on stage include Birds of Paradise (Toerien, 1992), The Monkey Walk with Susan Danford 1994, Die Skandaal 1997, Broken Glass 2011 and the Afrikaans musical Ons vir Jou 2013.
Stephen also had roles in productions of The Lion in Winter, Travelling Shots, Beyond Reasonable Doubt (1989), The Great Gatsby (as "Gatsby), The Lulu Plays, The Martian Chronicles, Kaptein Popfees and the Weekend Blues, Endangered Species and Sweet Phoebe (1996).
