Alewyn Lee (1926 (?)-1993) was an actor, radio and TV announcer, linguist, translator and head language advisor to the SABC.

Biography

Lee completed a BA degree in English and Afrikaans at the University of Pretoria and joined the SABC as announcer and language editor in 1949, ultimately becoming the head language advisor to the SABC. His insistence on maintaining language standards in the SABC would become the stuff of legend in the industry. He worked for them there till his retirement.

Among his other, more publicly notable, contributions to radio and TV were his role as presenter of the perennially popular literary programme Skrywers en boeke, a discussion of writers and books, and his participation in the TV quiz show Dis my geheim ("This is my secret").

He also published numerous works on language and language issues, and had occasional stints as actor for stage, radio and film.

He was elected a lifetime member of the Federasie van Afrikaanse Kultuurvereniginge (FAK).
