In 1969, South African financial services group [[Sanlam]] bought [[20th Century Fox]]'s film business in South Africa, renaming it [[Kinekor]]. At that point, Sanlam already owned [[Ster Films]] and [[Ster Theatres]]. The government permitted Sanlam to merge the three companies - [[Ster Films]], [[Ster Theatres]] and [[Kinekor]] - which they subsequently did as [[Ster-Kinekor]] in 1970.
