''Die Dame met die Kamelias'', translated from the original French play ''[[La Dame aux Camélias]]'', was directed by the French director René Clermont during the fifth Republic Festival in 1966 for its performance in the [[Hofmeyr Theatre]]. [[Berdine Grünewald]] played the ill-fated heroine and [[Johann Nell]] and [[André Walters]] (as Armand Duval) played the other leading roles. The play also visited Stellenbosch, Worcester and Bellville. Die Dame met die Kamelias, translated from the original French play La Dame aux Camélias written by Alexandre Dumas (1824-1895) in 1852.

According to the programme Wilhelmien van Zyl did the translation but Clermont, Nerina Ferreira, Laurie van der Merwe and Berdine Grünewald did a lot of work on the script.

Performance history in South Africa

The rest of the cast were Fanie Bekker, Nerina Ferreira, Salomi Louw, Rieta Burgers, Fitz Morley, Martin Crous, Gertie Smith-Visser, Limpie Basson, Jannie Gildenhuys, Ernst Eloff, Johan Nell, Wilhelm de la Querra, Johan van Jaarsveld, Antoinette Terblanche, Gillian Garlick, Ken Leach, Lynette Marais, Danie Marais. The play also visited Stellenbosch, Worcester and Bellville. Designs were by Michael Clarke.
