The original text
Written in 1929 about an impoverished couple. In the play the husband has secretly saved fifty pounds so that he may go on a voyage to England. This voyage is particularly important becuase of his recent illness, yet a problem arises when his grandson gets ill and needs fifty pounds for an operation.
