Teksmark
Teksmark is a project that aims to develop new South African drama scripts while offering playwrights the opportunity to pitch their script ideas to interested parties in the theatre industry for possible further development. It is sponsored by KKNK, NATi and The Baxter.
Process
Proposals are presented as play readings at Teksmark. Representatives from theatres and festivals, producers and other possible investors are invited to attend Teksmark.
During Teksmark, playwrights can discuss their script ideas. The market is open for any of the interested parties to negotiate with playwrights about the possible investment in, and further development of scripts.
Due to the limited time slots available, a panel selects a certain number of scripts. Directors and actors are contracted in conjunction with the playwright to perform the extracts.
Teksmark 2023 (Cape Town)
Teksmark 2023 took place in the Studio at the Baxter Theatre Complex (30 August - 1 September). The selection panel was Cornelia Faasen, Ilse Oppelt, Jody Abrahams, Mannie Manim and Saartjie Botha. The following plays were presented:
- Kontrapunt by Jason Jacobs and Devon Delmar. Excerpt directed by Lwanda Sindaphi with Ira Blanckenberg, Waldemar Schultz, Roxanne Blaise, Marlo Minnaar, Veronique Jephtas and Qondiswa James.
- Tot ’n Einde by Ludwig Binge. Excerpt directed by De Klerk Oelofse with Ludwig Binge, Ilse-Lee van Niekerk and Wessel Pretorius.
- Punchlines by Brent Palmer. Excerpt directed by Adrian Collins with Lauren Steyn, Pierre Malherbe, Kate Pinchuck, Marty Kintu and Oscar Petersen.
- Please Don’t Call Me Moffie by Zubayr Charles. Excerpt directed by Zubayr Charles with Anzio September.
- Stoffel by Elisha Zeeman-Knoesen. Excerpt directed by Llandi Beeslaar with Stephanie Gericke, Vasti Knoesen, Anoecha Kruger, Eldon van der Merwe and Marelize Viljoen and Graeme Lees (composer).
- Found by Darryl Nel. Excerpt directed by Darryl Nel with Niqui Cloete-Barrass and Annaline Stiglingh.
