Rafiek Mammon (19**-) is a theatre and literary critic, journalist, lecturer, playwright and director.

Biography

His background is in teaching and modern workshop facilitation methods and he holds an M.Phil Degree from the University of Stellenbosch and a B.A. (Soc Sc) Degree from the University of Cape Town.

He began his career in education, teaching at a secondary school for 7 years, then lectured in journalism at The Cape Peninsula University of Technology for 11 years (1994-2005), while also running the Arts and Culture programme and the Writing Centre there.

In 2006 he became a lecturer in Film and Media Studies at the University of Cape Town.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

His wide ranging involvement in the arts also includes activities like the presentation of a feature on Heart 104.9fm radio station with Saskia Falken, called Arts Alive, serving as a freelance reviewer and Arts Editor for the Cape Times, a Fleur du Cap Awards judge, a member of the KKNK festival's Kunstekabinet and a columnist for The Next 48hOURS.

His theatre involvement includes being involved with community theatre projects since 1990, and running theatre-in-education projects for youths and adults.

He has written and directed several productions in the Theatre-in-education and professional entertainment sectors.

In 2007 he and Gary Naidoo founded GANARAMA Productions, a company aimed at increasing communication skills through industrial theatre and edu-tainment techniques. When he is not writing and directing for the stage, he and Naidoo are involved in Corporate Industrial Theatre projects.
