Sean Else (19*-) is a South African actor, singer, songwriter, writer, director and producer.

Biography

Training

Sean Else achieved his diploma in Drama at the then Technicon Pretoria, where he specialised in Film Direction in his third year.

Contribution to theatre, film, media and performance in South Africa

He started his career as an actor with performances in several acclaimed theatre productions and roles in more than 30 films and television series. He was a member of the popular Afrikaans boy band Eden until 2006. In 2005, he started his own record and production company, Mozi Records/Mozi Films with Johan Voster, his songwriter colleague. He discovered popular South African singers Bok van Blerk and Lianie May, who both have multi-platinum sales. He also discovered Vaughan Gardiner, and has helped these three artists to write and produce music. As songwriter, Sean and Johan have written several hits, such as "De La Rey", "Ons Vir Jou Suid-Afrika", "Is Jy Bang?", "Tyd Om Te Trek", "Die Kaplyn", and several music videos, including "De La Rey", "Tyd Om Te Trek", "My Kreet", "Pa en Seun", "Jy Soen My Nie Meer Nie", "Vergeet My Nie", "Kwart Voor Vyf", and many more.

As actor

He had roles in Magspel, My Vrou se Man se Vrou, Môre is 'n Lang Dag, Kommando, Nog 'n Kooi... Nog 'n Vlooi!.

As writer

He wrote or co-wrote Varkplaas. He also co-wrote epic musicals with playwright Deon Opperman, such as Ons Vir Jou, Shaka Zulu, Jock of the Bushveld and Lied van my Hart. Sean and Deon also recently co-wrote the popular period series, Bloedbroers, which was screened on kykNET.

He wrote the film Modder en Bloed.

As producer

Sean was also the producer and co-producer of big theatre hits like My Man Se Vrou Se Man, My Boetie Se Sussie Se Ou and As Die Kat Weg Is.

In 2011 he started his own film- and production company, Collective Dream Films. Their most recent projects include Liefste Kayla, Vrou Soek Boer, Spud 2, Spud 3, The Perfect Wave, ’n Man Soos My Pa, and Modder en Bloed, an Anglo Boer War movie, with rugby also at the heart of the film, made in collaboration with Dark Matter Studio’s Llewelynn Greeff and Henk Pretorius.

As director

In 2011, he directed his first film, Platteland, and is also the co-producer of this film. He also directed the film Modder en Bloed.
