The Afrikaans title for Romeo en Julia (studie van een verdrinkend lichaam) ("Romeo and Julia - Study of a Drowning Body"), a dark and violent reinterpretation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet by Peter Verhelst for Het Zuidelijk Toneel, first performed 1998.

Performance history in South Africa

Translated into Afrikaans from the Flemish (Dutch) by Marthinus Basson. First produced in South Africa in 2005 by Vleis, Rys en Aartappels, directed and designed by Marthinus Basson and featuring Rolanda Marais, Laudo Liebenberg, Basson, Antoinette Kellermann, Jana Cilliers, Dawid Minnaar, Mbulelo Grootboom and Jannie Gagiano. It premiéred at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees in March.
