Old Righteous Blues is an Afrikaans film (with English subtitles) by Muneera Sallies.

The film

A film is about the Western Cape's the cultural tradition of Christmas choirs and orchestras Set in the town of Robertson, it can be described as a Romeo and Juliet story, in which a young man has to confront his limitations and face the ghosts of the past, in order to unite a fractured community and realise his dream of leading the town's Christmas Choir Band to its former glory.

Written by Carol Shore, directed by Muneera Sallies, with Ayden Croy, Megan Saayman, Kevin Smith, Simon Bruinders and Ivan Abrahams, Fadela Brown, Talia Davis, Joshwin Dyson, Stefan Erasmus, Dawn Fisher, Fila Klaasen, Miska Majavie, Gershwin Mias, Joseph Mitchell, Willem Moeries, Ayden October, Megan Saayman, Euodia Samson, Dennis Stander and Rudy Visgagie.

Produced by Wikus du Toit for The Ergo Company, with music by Edward George King, cinematography by William Collinson, editing by Bruce McLaren-Lyall, casting by Belinda Kruger, art direction by Dean Abrahams, set decoration by Chris Lategan and costume design by Julita de Wet.

The film was first shown at the kykNET Silwerskermfees, where it won a number of awards, then released in cinemas South Africa on June 8, 2024. It was the official South African entry for the Best Foreign Film Oscar award for 2024.
