Biography

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He has toured with his own plays and puppet shows through large parts of the country over the years, inter alia performing at the Grahamstown Festival, the KKNK Festival and various schools and churches throughout the Cape Flats.

He has also run workshops and done shows for children of various ages.

His written works include Wat is Vryheid? ("What is freedom"), performed in die Arena at the Nico Malan Theatre in 1993.

A copy of an incomplete typed playtext called Wie de hel is Johnny P. Adams en waarom sing hy die Blues?, credited to Melvin Whitebooi and Joseph Mitchell, was found in the Stellenbosch Drama Department archives in 2022. Possibly this was another Joseph Mitchell, since in a letter to this ESAT on 22 April, 2023, Mitchell denies ever having worked with Witbooi on a play.
