Makhaola Ndebele (1972-). Theatre, television and film actor, a dramatist and screenwriter; a television producer and a creative consultant, lecturer.

Biography

Born Makhaola Siyanda Ndebele, he is the son of Professor Njabulo Ndebele. He qualified for a Performers Diploma in Speech and Drama and a Bachelor of Arts degree (English and Drama) at the University of Cape Town, in 1995 and 1998 respectively.

After graduating, he worked extensively in various dramatic disciplines as a theatre, television and film actor, a dramatist and screenwriter; a television producer and a creative consultant. In 2013 he became a contract performance lecturer in Wits School of Arts/Dramatic Arts and a 2014 MA candidate.

In 2016 he was appointed as the artistic manager for Joburg City Theatres.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

As a performer

He had roles in Master Harold...and the boys (1995), The Good Woman of Sharkville in 1996.

In 2016 he appeared in Boesman and Lena at the University of Johannesburg's Con Cowan Theatre from May 17-28.

As a director

He directed Strindberg's The Father for the Wits School of Arts / WitsMusic and Wits Theatre in 2013. Other productions under his direction were Mother of All Eating (2014), Colour Me Human (2015), Lepatata (2015), 'n Seun na my Hart (Ingrid Jonker, 2020),

Awards, etc.

Naledi Award 2016 for Lepatata.
