Innovation for the Blind is a non-profit organisation that caters for the all-inclusive, specialised needs of visually impaired adults.

Previously known as the Institute for the Blind.

The institution

First established in 1881, it is situated the town of Worcester in the Western Cape. the mission is to empower adults with visual impairments through training, development, and care to experience quality of life and reach maximal levels of independence, and to offer specialised care and support to older persons.

The institution, its staff and students has over the year also contributed significantly in the fields of art, crafts and performance - including a radio station.

Radio Innovation

This is an independent station with its own studio, run by persons with visual impairments, who perform all tasks related to this initiative independently - from program development to broadcasting.


Among the radio plays produced by the studio have been 'n Mens Weet Nooit by Dalene Matthee (their first such undertaking, 2023) and Wysie oor die Water by Albert Short (2024).
