The Silent System is a farce in one act by Thomas J. Williams (1824-1874)[1].

First performed in London at the Strand Theatre on 3 July 1862. Published by T.H. Lacy.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

1868: Performed by the Le Roy-Duret Company on 13 January in the Harrington Street Theatre, Cape Town, by the newly assembled Le Roy and Duret company (with actors recruited in London by Le Roy the previous year), with The Merchant of Venice (Shakespeare) and a dance by Miss Clara.

1868: Performed by the Le Roy-Duret Company on 16 January with Hamlet (Shakespeare)and a dance by Miss Clara]]. It was to be the last production put on in the Harrington Street Theatre (or first Theatre Royal), before it burned down on **.
