The Searching Wind is a play in two acts written by Lillian Hellman (1905–1984) [1]. Setting: The drawing-room of the Hazen Home, Washington, D.C. Spring, 1944; a room in the Grand Hotel, Rome, 1922.

First produced by Herman Shulmin at the Fulton Theatre on Broadway, New York from 12 April 1944.

Performance history in South Africa

1945: Presented by New Theatre, Johannesburg, produced by Shirley Wakefield in September 1945, starring Eileen Goudvis, Minna Schneier, Sydney Witkin, Marcus Levy, with minor roles by Fred Loehnen, Gus Weddepohl and Art Gross . Sets by Gilles Botbyl.
