Les Deux Bourreaux is a one-act French play by Fernando Arrabal (1932-)[1]


The original text

An absurdist work by written in by the Spanish playwright, novelist and filmmaker. Published by Julliard, Paris in 1958.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into English as The Two Executioners by Richard Howard (Grove Press, 1960) and by Barbara Wright (Calder and Boyars, 1962).

Translated from the French into Afrikaans as Die Twee Laksmanne by Nerina Ferreira.

Performance history in South Africa

1967: Performed by The Grey Players in the De Waal Hall in Port Elizabeth. Produced by Charles Love. Cast: Peter Summerell, Stephen Glover, Mark Watson, Robert Nevay, Stephen Fick and Ronald Endley.
