1971: The South African première of the play in English was presented by CAPAB Drama at the Nico Malan Theatre on 28 August 1971, directed by Nicholas Wright, assisted by Pietro Nolte. Set designed by Raimond Schoop assisted by Penny Simpson, costumes by Aubrey Couling, original music by Michael Tuffin. Michael Atkinson played Johannes Kurmann, Helen Bourne Antoinette and Kerry Jordan Recorder. They were supported by a large cast, among others Peter Voigt, Arthur Hall, John Whiteley, Glynn Day, Molly Thompson, Alan Prior, Kathleen Lee, Marion Achber, Ronald France, Gay Morris, Michael Drin, Nerina Ferreira, Wilson Dunster, Elliot Playfair, Liz Dick and Johann Malherbe.
