FRANGS, Irene. (19*-2004) Voice-coach and ethnic musicologist. Born in **, she went to St Mary's Waverley School and studied music at the University of Cape Town. Worked as voice and singing coach for the Brickhill-Burke Company and others on shows such as Grease (19*), I Love my Wife (19*), Annie (19*), They're Playing Our Song (19*), Mame (19*), Godspell (19*), The Black Mikado (19*), The Best Little Whore-house in Texas (19*), A…My name Is Alice (19*), Living Land (19*) and King Afrika (19*). In 1997 she left the country to work in Connecticut, USA with Louis Burke. Among her protegés were Thembi Mtshali and Yvonne Chaka-Chaka.

FRANGS, Irene. Together with Robin Dolton she was an understudy and alternative cast member for Taubie Kushlick’s production of Eric Blau and Mort Shuman’s Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris starring Ann Hamblin, Ferdie Uphof, Jean Dell and Alain D. Woolf, at the Chelsea Theatre in 1972. Lindsay Heard was the musical director. (Tucker, 1997)
