Shozo Sato

Shōzō Satō (born 1933) [1] playwright, theatre director and designer.

Internationally renowned Japanese master of Zen arts and visionary theatre director, most known for adapting Western classics to Japanese Kabuki theatre. Some of his adaptations include Macbeth, Medea, Othello, Faust, Achilles, and the operas, Madame Butterfly and The Mikado.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

1992/3: He directed a production of Kabuki Medea in an unknown venue in Natal in 1992 or 1993, starring Brenda Radloff. He also designed the costumes, for which he was awarded a Vita Award (Natal region) in 1993.
