Career

He made his debut in 1929. He has acted under the direction of Bernard Shaw. He knew Noël Coward and also played with such well-known stage personalities as ivor Novello, Sir John Gielgud and Dame sybil Thorndike. He was director of the Perth Theatre in Scotland for five years and spent 18 months as director of the Donavan Maule Theatre in Nairobi. He later became a member of CAPAB's permanent company.

Starred in Hostile Witness (in Johannesburg, 1967), Heartbreak House and The Beaux Stratagem (both for CAPAB 1967), Cape Charade or Kaatjie Kekkelbek, The Chalk Garden, Richard II, The School for Scandal, Three Cheers for President Charlie, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Suite in Three Keys, Tinker's Curse
