Marijke Haakman (19**-) Actress .

Biography

She was married to John McKelvey. They moved to London but she returned to South Africa and worked under the name Marika Mann.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She starred in the Kushlick-Gluckman production of Graham Greene’s The Complaisant Lover in July 1960. Taubie Kushlick directed this play, also starring Leon Gluckman. Burning Bright 1962.

Marika Mann (formerly Marijke Haakman) together with Joe Stewardson, starred in James Goldman’s The Lion in Winter which was staged at the Alexander Theatre in 1967. It was directed for PACT by Taubie Kushlick. (Tucker, 1997). She appeared in Strindberg Without Tears at the Hofmeyr Theatre in 1971.

She was seen as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (CAPAB 1972), The Lion in Winter (Alexander Theatre 1968), Hedda in Hedda Gabler (CAPAB 1972), You Never Can Tell (PACT 1968), Dear Antoine (CAPAB 1971).
