Nag, Generaal
(“Goodnight, General”) by Reza de Wet. A pacifist play set in the Anglo-Boer War and relating the story of a woman avenging herself on her dying husband, the General, whom she holds responsible for the death by suffocation of her son. Published in Vrystaat Trilogie [“Free State Trilogy”] in 1991 (HAUM-Literêr).
Performance history in South Africa
First produced by PACOFS under the direction of ** (1988?).
Directed by Ernst Eloff for PACOFS in 1991, performed at the André Huguenet Theatre, Bloemfontein. The cast members were Christo Compion, Isadora Verwey, Pieter Brand and Hendrik Baird.
In 2004 De Wet wrote Breathing In, using very much the same situation but refocusing the issues.
