He is the son of actress Sann de Lange and Morné Coetzer senior. He was married to TV presenter Jeanne Coetzer (also known as Jeanne McCaul), daughter of Hermien Dommisse. He joined the Cape Regional Theatre circa 1962. He has appeared on stage in productions such as Die Goue Kring, Ons Dorp, , Ek Onthou vir Mamma, Anna Christie and Juffrou Edelwater.
