Elliot Playfair

Elliot Playfair (19**-). Actor, director.

Career

He made his debut in 1929. He has acted under the direction of Bernard Shaw. He knew Noël Coward and also played with such well-known stage personalities as ivor Novello, Sir John Gielgud and Dame Sybil Thorndike. He was director of the Perth Theatre in Scotland for five years and spent 18 months as director of the Donavan Maule Theatre in Nairobi. He later became a member of CAPAB's permanent company.

Starred in Cape Charade or Kaatjie Kekkelbek, Miss Julie (1973), The Beaux' Stratagem (1967), The Chalk Garden (1968), Heartbreak House (1967), The Importance of Being Earnest (1970), Richard II (1968), Romeo and Juliet (1972), The School for Scandal (1969), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (1969), Hostile Witness (in Johannesburg, 1967), Suite in Three Keys (1968), Biography (1971), Tinker's Curse (circa 1970), White Horse Inn (1972), The Good and Faithful Servant' (1972), Mother Courgage (1973), The Tragedy of Tragedies, or The Life and Death of Tom Thumb the Great (1972), Twelfth Night, or What You Will (1969), Three Cheers for President Charlie (1975).

He directed The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden (1967), Hot Tiara (1970), The Anniversary (by Bill MacIlwraith) (1971), Candida.
