(literally: “room theatre”, or cabinet theatre) is an Afrikaans term (taken from the Dutch) utilized in the 1950's and 1960's to refer to intimate, experimental theatre (especially referring to companies and spaces).

National Theatre Organisation (NTO) formally had a Kamertoneel company, which performed in the renovated Harmony Hall in Pretoria (then called the National Theatre) from 1958-1961.
