Kamertoneel as concept
An Afrikaans term (taken from the Dutch and Flemish, and literally meaning “room theatre”, or "cabinet theatre") was utilized in the 1950's and 1960's to refer to intimate, experimental theatre (especially referring to companies and spaces).
NTO Kamertoneel
The best known perhaps was the NTO Kamertoneel company (1958-1961).
The first production, in the Harmoniesaal, was Voorlopige Vonnis (Van Hoeck) in 1958, followed by Seven against the Sun (Brown) and Een Bruid in de Morgen (Claus).
