Barnum [1] is a 1980 American musical with a book by Mark Bramble, lyrics by Michael Stewart, and music by Cy Coleman. It is based on the life of showman P. T. Barnum [2], covering the period from 1835 through 1880 in America and major cities of the world where Barnum took his performing companies. 1983: Staged by PACT in the Civic from 22 November, directed by Louis Burke, starring Mark Wynter and Paul Ditchfield (alternating as Barnum), Jo-Ann Pezarro (Chairy), William C. Witter (Ringmaster), Sam Marais (White-faced Clown), Brendan Grealy (Wally), Duncan Bouwer (Cheater Lyman), Mara Louw (Jolee Heth & Blues Singer), Ryno Hattingh (Amos Scudder), Benito Holmes (Tumbler), Carol Kaplan (Lady Acrobat), Glen Shelton (Acrobat), Natalia da Rocha (Lady Juggler) and others. Lighted by Stan Knight. Choreography by Roy Durbin.
